This spring, I am struck by how deeply our work continues to reflect the values that define our community — creativity, connection, and an unwavering commitment to students.
In this edition, you’ll read about students and staff doing truly meaningful work across our schools. From the growth of the student newspaper at Pivot San Diego, to scholarship recipients at Pivot Riverside, to the engaging teachers who are helping students earn writing credit through creative and practical experiences — these stories represent the kind of learning that inspires and empowers.
At the same time, this newsletter comes at a moment of reflection for our organization as we remember our dear colleague, Craig Hobart, Regional Director, who dedicated 13 years to our schools. Craig believed deeply in meeting students where they were and doing whatever it took to help them succeed. He consistently championed hands-on learning and meaningful engagement, knowing that these experiences are often what truly motivate students to persist, complete their coursework, and build a strong future.
Craig had a way of keeping us grounded. He reminded us — often and thoughtfully — to ask whether what we were doing was truly in the best interest of students. He challenged us to think more deeply, to do better, and to never lose sight of our purpose. He also brought a sense of balance to our work, encouraging all of us to step outside, enjoy the outdoors, and embrace a sense of adventure.
We will greatly miss his perspective, his dedication, and his steady encouragement to keep improving. As you read through this newsletter and see the incredible work happening across our schools, I hope you also see the lasting impact of Craig’s values reflected in it.
Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing to support the work that matters most — our students.
