We appreciate your patience as we navigate the California State Board of Education and county health requirements to best meet the needs of our students. We are in awe of all our staff, students, and families as they tackle the challenges this year has thrown our way.
As you know, we are required by the state to test students using the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the California Science Test (CAST) assessments each year. Last year those assessments were waived for all schools in California. This year they are not.
Pivot originally had the designated window for state testing to be April 19-30. We have decided to move the window to the end of the school year, June 1-11. This means that high school students will begin their Block 6 courses right away and finish the block on May 28. The last two weeks of the school year will give everyone an opportunity to do one of the following:
- Complete the state assessments for their grade level (grades 3-8 and 11-12)
- Finish up coursework not previously completed in either first semester or second semester but required for grade level promotion or graduation
- Complete a 2-week course or project to earn additional credits toward high school graduation
If you are not certain if your student has classes to complete to promote to the next grade level or graduate, please contact your Educational Coordinator.
Testing schedules will be shared toward the middle of May so you know when to attend.
We hope that all our students will participate in the state assessments this year. Our scores and participation rate are one of the most important measures observed for our charter renewal with our authorizing district. We want to show them that our students are learning each year and this is how we are asked to do that.
An updated calendar for April, May, and June is attached. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
