Pivot Charter School North Valley became a stage for civic engagement as Chico Mayor Andrew Coolidge and Tasha Weaver, Representative for Senator Brian Dahle visited the campus for an engaging discussion with students on Sept 26. The visit, which highlighted Pivot’s commitment to real-world learning, gave students a unique opportunity to interact directly with local decision-makers and understand the impact of government on their lives.

“We were thrilled to welcome such dedicated local leaders to our school and showcase the contributions Pivot is making to the community,” said Jayna Gaskell, Executive Director of Pivot Charter Schools. “Their visit gave our students a unique opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and gain valuable insights into the important work of public service.”

These conversations not only deepened the students’ understanding of government, but also aligned with Pivot’s mission of empowering students through real-world learning experiences.

“At Pivot, we prioritize providing our students with opportunities to apply what they learn in meaningful and practical ways,” continued Jayna. “Opportunities like this encourage them to see themselves as active participants in shaping their future.”

Pivot takes pride in offering students numerous opportunities to take charge of their education and deepen their learning through real-world application. In addition to a robust online curriculum — including Career Technical Education courses and enhanced in-person learning opportunities at the resource center, like this recent visit — Pivot North Valley provides concurrent enrollment, workforce experience, and internship programs, all of which can earn college credit through its partnership with Butte College.

Pivot Charter School North Valley is committed to cultivating a learning environment that empowers students for both academic achievement and community engagement. For more information about Pivot’s approach, visit Pivot North Valley.
