We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Barrie Waldman, a well-loved and respected Educational Coordinator at Pivot Charter Schools.
Barrie joined the Pivot community in August 2019, serving as an Educational Coordinator for two and a half years. She brought joy to the Pivot North Bay Campus in many ways, especially with her fashionable (and occasionally royal) flair. Barrie never missed a reason to dress up, loved to color coordinate her outfits and if she was attending a formal event, she made certain to wear her tiara. While she worked from the Pivot North Bay Campus, Barrie also served students at Pivot Riverside and worked online with students at all four of our schools.
“On behalf of the entire Pivot community, our condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with Barrie’s family,” said Pivot’s Executive Director Jayna Gaskell. “Barrie characterized all that is good in the world; every rainbow, every smile and all the sparkles. She was a special and invested teacher, whose nickname was The Barrie Godmother. She was a true friend to everyone she met and will be missed by so many people. Her passion and fervor for life was inescapably contagious; you could not spend even seconds with her without smiling and feeling immensely loved. We will deeply miss her bright and impactful presence on campus and on our team.”
It is clear that Barrie has left a legacy in the Pivot community that will be cherished forever. Her dedication to her students and education as a whole speak volumes about her positive and caring character. Pivot was blessed to have Barrie serve our students and be a part of the Pivot family. Her infectious positive energy and smiles will be greatly missed.
Beyond her work with her students, Barrie loved spending time with her family, organic gardening, reading, and participating in historical reenactments in local renaissance fairs.
We mourn her loss and send our condolences to her husband and child, as well as her sister and mother. The family has started a GOFUNDME to raise money to allow her child and husband to remain in their home for a few more years. You can donate any amount here: In Loving Memory of Barrie Waldman Marker
