It’s been a year of meaningful milestones across the Pivot community, and we’re excited to share updates from both our North Bay and Riverside campuses! In December, Pivot Charter School North Bay received a major vote of confidence when the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education granted a five-year charter renewal, extending our authorization through June 30, 2031. We couldn’t be more grateful for the Board’s thorough review and their recognition of what makes Pivot special.
Following a public hearing on April 1 and a vote on May 6 held by the Riverside County Office of Education, Pivot Charter School Riverside has also successfully completed its charter renewal process! We are grateful for their review and the community members who came out to show their support.
The processes for renewal in both North Bay and Riverside included well-attended public hearings where our students, families, and educators came together to share why Pivot is so important to our communities. These remarks were instrumental in guiding the decision-making process for these boards, and they are also a meaningful reminder of the value of our approach to education. If you’re interested in listening in on what our community had to say, check out the recordings from the North Bay hearings on October 22 and December 17 in addition to the recent Riverside hearing.
Both renewals speak to something bigger than paperwork and policy: they reflect the students we serve and the communities that have rallied around them. At North Bay, 65% of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, 26% receive special education services, and every student came to Pivot seeking a fresh start or a better fit. At Riverside, similar student needs ring true. Across all Pivot schools, families have embraced Pivot’s flexible, customized learning model as an alternative option that meets their students where they are, helps them find joy in education, and realigns students to learning goals and milestones like graduation, college enrollment, and workforce engagement.
“We are thrilled by Santa Rosa City Schools’ and Riverside County Office of Education’s decisions to renew our charters and affirm our work in those regions,” said Executive Director Jayna Gaskell. “These renewals reflect a shared belief in strong accountability, collaboration, and high-quality educational opportunities for all students.”
Both campuses are heading into the new year with fresh momentum. North Bay launched the Graduation Track Program this fall to give seniors and fifth-year students targeted support toward earning their diplomas. The campus also recently expanded learning spaces for all students and upgraded safety features. Riverside is continuing to grow student opportunities through concurrent enrollment with the highest number of students taking college classes while in high school than ever before this year. All Pivot campuses also offer individualized plans to help students recover credits, accelerate graduation, and strengthen foundational skills.
As Pivot looks ahead, we’re energized by what these charter renewals represent across both campuses: a lasting partnership with our communities, shared responsibility for outcomes, and a steadfast commitment to the students and families.
